City, our Merchant Organization constantly analyzes and reacts to business
trends by strategically selecting the right merchandise, and getting it into the
right Macy’s locations in the proper quantities.
The most familiar role in the Merchant Organization is the Buyer, whose main
responsibilities are to maximize sales and profits for a given area of business
through developing and implementing strategy, analysis and reaction to sales
trend.
But many other vital activities take place within the Merchant Organization. Key
responsibilities include:
Inventory Management – Guide systems functionality and processes for
Allocation and Replenishment Assortment Planning, as well as Pool Stock
processes. Collaborate with other team members to create allocation and
replenishment strategies.
Pricing – Develop and implement localized clearance pricing strategies.
Project financial impact and maximize business opportunities focusing on sales,
margin and turnover.
Size & Analytics – Direct the Merchant Organization on store, vendor and
assortment needs to improve sizing. Collaborate with key vendors to improve
sizing by location and maintain Size Profiles for all stores.
